Exploring Heritage Shores Golf Club and Community

By: Nicole Dougan via Shorebread
heritage shores

The Eastern Shore boasts many, many beautiful golf courses up and down the coastline. Recently, ShoreBread took a quick trip to Bridgeville, Delaware to check out Heritage Shores Golf Club, and we were immediately impressed with how well-kept the grounds, the golf course, the houses and especially the club house are. Perfectly kept landscaping, a tight knit community, and a top notch club house complete with two dining options and a plethora of activities await you at Heritage Shores and we have to admit, we found ourselves quickly looking for an excuse to come back!

When you walk through the gorgeous farmhouse doors of the clubhouse, you’re greeted by an inviting sitting area and a bustling foyer where you’ll find a variety of members, golfers, visitors and staff mingling, drinking tea, eating appetizers and reading the local paper. The enticing smells from the restaurant left us wishing we hadn’t eaten our boring brown bag lunch before leaving the office (looks like we found our excuse to return!).

If you head to your left, you’ll run into the adorable Tavern offering cozy booths and a beautiful bar that looks out onto the golf course… making your afternoon cocktail all the more relaxing. They offer an extensive menu as well with appetizers, lunch size portions and delicious sounding entrees (We will be back!!). There’s also Passwater’s Restaurant, which overlooks the 18th green of the championship golf course. “Our restaurant pretty much caters to everyone,” said Stefanie Barfield, Director of Sales for Heritage Shores for the past 7 years. “It’s very casual and has a wide price range from $8-$24. It’s Eastern Shore friendly with a lot of options.” In addition, there is a beautiful banquet room, corporate meeting rooms and much more. The restaurant also runs specials each month; for September its ½ priced wine on Tuesdays and $11 entrees on Thursday, The Tavern also offers great entertainment many nights of the week.

The golf course and club house are settled in a 400+ home neighborhood for people aged 55 and over. Barfield explained that the majority of the residents in the community take advantage of the perks and amenities offered to them. Some of these include a fitness room, an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, pickleball courts, billiards, crafting rooms, a library and a woodworking room, just to name a few. “The great thing about this community is that all of the properties are turn-key ready,” said Barfield. “It’s a really active community, with a lot of things to keep you busy. We’re really tight-knit.”

While the community is tight knit, with many of the residents seen frequenting the clubhouse and restaurant, Barfield pointed out that the golf course, events, clubhouse and restaurant are all open to the public. “We’re open for everyone,” she said, “It’s all public – the deck, the golf course, the restaurant – we always have great events going on too.”

Currently, Barfield is working on a cooking class series for next year. There are also plenty of fun fall activities including fire pits for roasting marshmallows, brunch with Santa, Thanksgiving dinner and more. Of course it’s never too early to start thinking about holiday parties and New Year’s Eve plans either. “A lot of other communities and courses don’t offer all that we do,” said Barfield. “We’re open for everyone- member or not. Our events are for the public and we’d love to see you, please come check us out!”
