Local Wrestlers Score Big at Night Event

By: Shawn J. Soper via Maryland Coast Dispatch

WEST OCEAN CITY- Three young wrestlers from the Eastern Shore Intensive Wrestling Club based in West Ocean City turned in strong performances at the Melee Til Midnight Tournament in Virginia with two first-place finishes and a strong third.

The Eastern Shore Intensive Wrestling Club, under the direction of Coach Keith Tobin and his staff, provides young wrestlers in the area with training and mentoring all year long in an effort to provide them with a foundation for future success. All of the ESIWC wrestlers excelled at events and tournaments all over the region last winter and spring and most continue their training and competitions throughout the long summer season when school is out and other young athletes are hitting the beach or the pool.

Another great opportunity for a handful of ESIWC wrestlers to show off their impressive skill and dedication came up last weekend with the Melee Til Midnight Tournament in Vienna, Va. The tournament is held on 20 mats under the lights and out in the open air on the football field at James Madison High School. It features some of the best youth and high school wrestlers throughout the mid-Atlantic region and beyond and the local ESIWC wrestlers certainly left their mark on the event.

ESIWC wrestlers Andy McKahan and Anthony Caruso won their respective age and weight classes, while Jagger Clapsadle finished an impressive third. For McKahan and Clapsadle, the strong finishes in the Melee Til Midnight tournament came on the heels of each earning All-American honors after placing high in their divisions in the Eastern National Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association Championships in Salisbury in May.
