Seahawk Track Teams Strong in Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track teams turned in strong performances at a Bayside meet last week, with each team finishing second and several individuals placing in their respective events.

The Decatur boys finished second with 67 total team points, while Caesar Rodney was first with 79 points and Cape Henlopen was third with 62 points. On the girls’ side, the Seahawks also finished in a two-way tie for second with Smyrna as each team scored 62 team points. Cape Henlopen was first with 73 total team points.

In terms of individual results in the boys’ meet, Decatur’s Jakhai Woodard finished fifth in the 55-meter, while Kyle Kelly was first in the 300 and James Mapp was third. Dan Winters finished sixth in the 500. Decatur scored well in the relays, finishing first in the 4x200, first in the 4x400 and third in the 4x800. The Seahawks were also strong in the field events, with Patrick Phillips taking first in the shot put, Khaalid Collick taking fourth in the triple jump, Lucas Duker finishing fourth in the high jump, Woodard finishing fifth and Collick finishing sixth in the long jump, and Zach Watters and Sunny Aroh finishing fifth and sixth in the pole vault.

The Decatur girls also turned in strong individual performances. Layla Fowler was third in the 300 and second in the 500. Kacie Moore was first in the pole vault followed closely by Katie Collins, who finished second. Ameerah Lewis was first in the shot put and Hannah Wilson was fourth in the high jump. In the relays, Decatur finished first in the 4x400, third in the 4x400 and seventh in the 4x800.
