On Aug. 17, at approximately 2:39 a.m., a trooper assigned to the Maryland State Police, Berlin Barrack, was on duty on routine patrol travelling west on Route 50 in a marked Maryland State Police Unit.
As the trooper entered the intersection of Keyser Point Road with a green traffic signal, a 2010 Ford Mustang, being operated by David Leyden, made a left turn from eastbound Route 50 at Keyser Point Road against a red traffic signal and into the path of the marked State Police vehicle.
The Mustang collided with the marked State Police vehicle. According to a police report, subsequent contact and investigation with the operator of vehicle 1 identified as David John Leyden determined that Leyden was under the influence of alcoholic beverages while operating a motor vehicle. Leyden was charged with DUI and other traffic related offenses.
