“Brew With A View”
With a beautiful view of the Inlet and Assateague Island and a plate full of delicious food, The Frog Bar and Grill is the perfect way to spend a relaxed night in downtown Ocean City.
Located among the Inlet Village shops, The Frog Bar and Grill snagged a sweet spot for their dinner guests. Tables with stools and a long bar overlooking the blue water of the inlet all provide an amazing view of the beautiful surroundings - especially as the sun begins to melt into the water.
If outdoor dining doesn’t fit what you’d like, don’t worry. More tables are located inside, along with a full service bar. Slide on up to the bar for some of The Frog’s best sellers including five dollar orange crushes. Also stop by for “Froggy Hour”, every day from 8 p.m. to 9p.m., to enjoy one dollar Miller Lite drafts and five dollar Miller Lite pitchers.
One of the great parts about The Frog Bar and Grill is their commitment to their customers, which is why they use only fresh, local ingredients for their menu. Delmar and Dena Smith have poured their hearts and souls into this little downtown getaway, and once you’re there, you’ll see just how. Delmar might just be your bartender and Dena may be the one cooking your burgers. In the words of Delmar, The Frog Bar and Grill is a “mom and pop” kind of operation with a passion for all customers, from couples to families.
As a part of their dedication to locally grown and fresh ingredients, The Frog Bar and Grill uses local vegetables, a local bakery, and even has their own on-site herb garden. Talk about time and effort to put into a menu! As soon as you taste the food, however, you will quickly understand how these choices set this OC restaurant apart. The Frog Bar and Grill is so popular, many locals and visitors alike have made efforts to catch the attention of TV Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”, so if you find yourself melting over all the melted Swiss on the menu, be sure to nominate The Frog Bar and Grill online.
I was looking forward to dinner at The Frog and invited a friend to share in the fun. My friend Lyndsey and I enjoyed not only the view but some crazy good food as well. Because we are both Ocean City locals, we have been to many restaurants around town and we both agreed that The Frog Bar and Grill is special - by the end of our meal, we were already planning our next trip to try their breakfast, which is from 8 to 11 a.m. every day.
As waitresses, we also appreciate great service, which is exactly what we received. Our server Mike was nothing but helpful and attentive. With a laid back attitude, and a kind smile, it made our dinnertime that much more relaxing and enjoyable.
As appetizers, we shared the Old Bay Fries, with their delicious Old Bay dipping sauce. I am an Old Bay fanatic and I have never had such delicious French fries. Lyndsey ordered the Loaded Nachos, which included tri-color tortilla chips smothered with homemade chili and spicy cheese sauce, layered with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, salsa, sour cream, and jalapeños. The queso was definitely my favorite part - I could’ve eaten a whole bowl by myself, I am sure.
For the entrées, I chose the famous Mushroom and Swiss burger, which was a char-grilled burger cooked on their open-flame grill, topped with a whole marinated and grilled portabella mushroom, melted Swiss and mayonnaise. You may think that you can find a burger anywhere in Ocean City, but you’d be hard pressed to find a burger this delicious and for this price - only $8.99 served with chips and a pickle. If mushrooms and Swiss don’t do it for you, don’t worry for a second because there are 11 other awesome ways The Frog serves up these fresh ground beef burgers and white meat chicken breast sandwhiches. Other options include the Hawaiian Burger, piled high with sweet ham, grilled pineapple, melted swiss and finished with homemade honey mustard or the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, tossed in homemade buttery buffalo sauce and topped with crisp romaine, fresh tomatoes, red onion and chunky bleu cheese. With the option to sub chips for fresh cut fries or Guinness-battered onion rings, how could you go wrong with any choice?
Lyndsey ordered a more healthy option, but I stole a bite and it was equally as satisfying and tasty as my own choice. She ordered the Lily Pad salad, one of 3 salad options, which consisted of crisp romaine, locally grown tomatoes, red onion, celery leaves, and a sprinkling of cheddar cheese with dressing options of Balsamic Vinaigrette, Chunky Bleu Cheese or Buttermilk Ranch. She also chose to add on grilled tuna, which was cooked to her liking and seasoned in some savory spices. Other add-on options include grilled chicken, chicken tenders, or grilled portabella.
Another great aspect of The Frog’s menu is their variety of soup options, all of which are homemade. The Frog’s homemade chili is a hearty soup, full of fresh ground beef, beans, locally grown ingredients, beans, and spices from their herb garden I mentioned earlier. The other soup staple The Frog keeps on the stove is their Spicy Crab and Sweet Corn. This is a light cream based soup with Maryland crabmeat, local corn, fresh tarragon and a splash of sweet brandy. And of course, when you go, ask about the soup of the day.
Two other dinner specials to look out for when chilling at The Frog include the Ahi Tuna, which is fresh Ahi Tuna steak grilled to your liking served on a brioche roll with lettuce and your choice of tartar sauce or wasabi mayo. Another great option are the fish tacos - two soft flour tortillas filled with fried fish, fresh shredded cabbage, tomatoes, onions and cheddar cheese, drizzled with chipotle cream sauce, served with tortilla chips and salsa.
Because The Frog Bar and Grill welcomes all types of hungry mouths, they do include a menu for Tad Poles which includes chicken tenders, a hot dog, or grilled cheese served with chips and a pickle for those under 10. Parents even have the option of giving their kids a special treat by adding a Frog Freeze Smoothie for only $1.99.
So next time you’re looking for a spot with great food and a place you can kick back and enjoy a front seat view of the water, stop by The Frog Bar and Grill located at 806 South Boardwalk, Ocean City, Maryland.
