By: Steven Green via Maryland Coast Dispatch

OCEAN CITY -- The Worcester County Humane Society is having its 13th Annual Boardwalkin’ for Pets event on Saturday, April 28, rain or shine, on the Boards in Ocean City. The event is from 9 a.m.-noon and is hosted by The Wave, 97.1.

Participants collect pledges from friends, family, and co-workers, and can walk with their dog either the 2.5-mile or 5-mile course. If you raise $25, you receive a dog bandana. If you raise $50, you receive a bandana and a T-shirt. If you raise $100, you receive a bandana, T-shirt, and sun visor.

For those that collect the most money, great prizes from local businesses are awarded.
The child under 12 that raises the most money also wins a special prize basket.

Activities begin at 9 a.m. with pet contests starting at 9:30 a.m. Pet contests include Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Best Dressed, Pet and Owner Look alike, Best Trick, and Sloppiest kiss. Prizes are awarded to the winners.

Organizers will be selling raffle tickets for its annual raffle –first prize is $3,000, second prize is $1,500 and third prize is $500. Drawing will be held on Dec. 15.

There will also be raffle tickets for sale for a Ravens beach bike, donated by Ken and Joann Hixon, and fishing poles and tackle box, donated by Fish Tales. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

There will be a sixth annual cutest cat contest. Interested participants are asked to bring a photo of your cat to the walk with your name, address, email address and telephone number. A special prize basket will be awarded to the winner.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Worcester County Humane Society, a non-profit no-killer shelter heavily dependent on donations, and are used for the care of the animals including veterinary care.
