Coco Nights

By: Brenda Golden via Coconut Times
Hi, guys! Everyone is super pumped up about the DEW Tour being back in town - bigger and better than ever. It’s killing me being here in the office on this gorgeous day knowing that world champs are doing their high flying aerobatics over the bowl in OC. They have really amped up the music this year, too. In addition to Lupe Fiasco and Wolfgang Gartner who we told you about in last week’s issue, Dew Tour announced that they have brought in DJ SKEE, SKEE TV and Build Destroy Music to “create ten original songs, as well as a digital series around the Dew Tour sound. The tracks will be completely original and serve as the theme song and complete score to the 33 hours of NBC Sports broadcast coverage of the 2012 Dew Tour. As part of the creative process Dew Tour athletes including Steve McCann, Bucky Lasek, Greg Lutzka, Kyle Baldock and Colton Satterfield, joined SKEE and producers THX and Smashtronauts in the studio providing inspiration and feedback during the creative process. For the first time the athletes will be co-producers in the music featured at the Dew Tour, enhancing athlete integration as part of the new Dew Tour model.” And you’ll be hearing it first right here in Ocean City. Wow! Have you been up to the Boardwalk this week? The setup is huge - much bigger than last year; and you can view all events and music free. Pretty exciting stuff to have these world-class athletes here on our beach - and to have the whole world looking on.
I’ll be taking my breaks at the World Famous Purple Moose where tonight and Sat. night the rock sounds will be pumping out onto the Boardwalk from one of our favorite bands, Surreal. These guys continue to impress me no matter how many times I have heard them. There’s no one in the business, here or world-wide, who can sing better than Walt. He has amazing range and power and the guys who stand with him are all consummate performers - Brian on guitar, Will on bass and Rene on drums. Join us at the Purple Moose where you can count on great music any night of the week.
I want to welcome two new players into the Coconut Times lineup of wonderful music venues. First, the third area Hooters on Rt. 50 in West Ocean City where every Tue. & Thur. is their famous Wingfest and every Wed. is Bike Night featuring live music. This past Wed. I stopped in and heard the Aaron Howell Band. Great music and the joint was jumpin’. Tonight you can hear that raw rock & blues band Pompous Pie headed up by guitarist Marco. These guys know how to make you feel the music down to your toes. Stop in and rock. Next Wed. they’ll have Road House Clam to get your pipes smokin’!
Welcome to 115 Bayside Bar & Grill in the Gold Coast Mall. This is the former site of Crocs Steak House, a very popular stop in the OC circuit for many years. Brian, Kelly & crew have been working hard to resurrect this location and I can personally tell you they have done a great job. Music will be coming very soon w/ Honu getting the ball rolling on Fri., Sept 7, 7-11, with an Open Mic night. To show respect and appreciation to the locals, Brian has mandated a 20 percent OFF food & drink, all the time, w/ presentation of Local ID, and that includes Berlin, Ocean Pines & West OC. Thank you!
Check out the Bahama Mamas ad to learn all about the 1st Annual Crab Race hosted by DJ Batman on Tues., Aug 21, 4pm (at north location). This should be a hoot. Crabs racing? Since they walk sideways this should be particularly funny. Crabologist Ernie promises prizes, giveaways, specials and tons of laughs. I’m taking off work early for this one.
Thur. is another day I’m looking forward to - the last Concert on the Lawn at Lighthouse Sound featuring the music of 2U the second best U2 music in the world. This is also the Listener Appreciation Party from the folks at WOCM 98.1, Irie Radio. It’s open to the public and gonna be great. Pray for sunshine.
I encourage you all to go to Trader Lee’s Sat. to help out the family of departed friend Jimmy McDonald. Lower Class Blues is kindly donating their amazing talents and I know this is the kind of party Jimmy would want. God bless him and his family. Party safe!
