Hi, y’all. We really got lucky with blustery ol’ Irene didn’t we. I got a big chuckle out of what my friend Eddie said, “God watches out for fools and drunks.” Whether or not we fall into either category, we do seem to be blessed here. So keep those prayers coming and remember to pray for those who were hard hit.
    I’m excited to get out and see some of the bands that were canceled last week due to the storm; such as, Tranzfusion at M.R. Ducks today and The Chest Pains at BJ’s Sat. Both places have an incredible lineup for the weekend. Check our “Who’s Where When” list for a complete rundown.
    Lauren Glick & The Mood Swingers will perform for the first time at Johnny’s Pizza & Pub tonight (Fri.). Always a good time there and the best specialty pizzas around. Say hello to Johnny; he loves it.
    Another fun place to hang out is Surf’s Up Cafe where music begins tonight with “Catfish” and continues with Lime Green rockin’ out for you. They’ve got the best food. Did you read the Best Bites review by Jenny?     As Jenny says in Sonic Notes, it has been a fabulous fun run of tribute bands and national acts this summer thanks to Fager’s Island (finishing their season with the return of 2U playing U2), Seacrets and The Purple Moose. As I write this I’m looking forward to hearing FUEL at the Moose; but even more so, I can’t wait to hear the Bruce Springsteen tribute band called The Rising next Thur., Sept 15. Yes, I love the Boss. I was front and center every time Bruce in the USA performed at Seacrets and I’ll be front and center for The Rising, too, at the Purple Moose.
    My long-time friends Bird Dog & The Road Kings will make a special holiday appearance at Micky Fins on Sun. These guys can pick up the spirits of even the gloomiest gus so if you know one, get him out to hear the good-time music of Bird Dog. Request his originals; they’re great.
    Speaking of originals - Randy Lee Ashcraft has the biggest and best body of original music of anyone I know. I had the pleasure of singing with him at the final Tues. party of the season at Coconuts. He and his band, the Salt Water Cowboys, are just the absolute most friendly and talented guys around.
