Hi, y’all. We’re truckin’ right along after an amazing Springfest weekend. We didn’t let a little fog, mist and cold wind keep us down, did we? Nope! Mary Lou fans were out in full force and she wants me to tell you that she was happy to see you all and she’s so grateful to have such loyal fans. Randy Lee’s fans packed the tent, too, as did Great Train Robbery on Sunday. I was thrilled to meet Eddie Money - still a goof-ball and so entertaining. Good songs will stand the test of time and that’s why so many tribute bands are popular these days. And bands like Survivor can rejoin to recreate their glory days - because the music is great and that never changes. I was happy to hear, and see, that original singer, Jimi Jamison, who has such an amazing voice, has rejoined the group. Wow! Sorry I missed Loretta Lynn but I hear she was great, too.
Yes, you know the partying is about to step up when the trees are planted at Seacrets and Jim Long returns to open the beach parties. Welcome back, Jim! He and faithful side-kick Gene Watson on bass and cutie guitarist Bill Kelly will take the beach stage Sat. to begin their summer series, playing every Fri., Sat. & Sun. throughout the summer. Following Jim will be the first reggae beach party led by S.T.O.R.M. and next week, May 18 & 19 Innasense will be back. Check our listing or go online, coconuttimes.com, and you will see that the music schedule is stepping up with live bands every night. Hooray! Be sure to read Jenny’s Best Bites on Seacrets and visit for their excellent food, too. It sure made me hungry reading it and I can testify also to the dishes she mentioned that are oh so good.
Did you see Linda Sears singing with Randy Lee at Springfest? Great job, girl! You can hear her with her band, Old School, twice this weekend: Fri. at Johnny’s Pizza Pub where we always have a blast. It’s a classy small venue but that just means that you’re partying with all your friends. Cool! Then, hear them again Sat. at Smitty McGee’s. In case you didn’t know, John Remy is now with her on lead guitar and he also has an incredible voice; plus Honu brings it on with keyboards, guitar and also sings. The result? With Eric on bass and Ray on drums, we have a well-rounded band that presents classic rock, old school.
We had a blast last Fri. at The Purple Moose with Alter Ego (and my crazy cool friends) - what a great band! A group called The NEThingz will perform this weekend and you know they’ll be good ‘cause they’re at the Moose! I hear there is a bar crawl going on Sat. and DJ Joey Capo is the perfect host on a Sat. afternoon at The Moose.
I checked into The Greene Turtle last night for their first live band in a long time. Galaxy Collective, who did such a great job at Fager’s Island last Mon., had the college crowd goin’ at this legendary venue. The latest music will be presented nightly by a crew of excellent DJ’s (Wax, Wood, White Gloves, Jeremy & Blazin’ Hot) and more live music will be presented as the summer rolls along. Galaxy Collective is slated to appear again on Wed., May 23.
Galaxy 66 opened their newly renovated Skye Bar with a grand opening party last Sun. Fabulous! Amazing! Acoustic trio Crazy In Stereo was great and I’m sure they will be back. Owners Tammy & Roger plan to present acoustic acts during the afternoon and the best DJs around late night. DJ Wax was on hand for the opening and he will return this Mon. Also, DJ Groove is on tap for Fri. and DJ Rob Cee is Sat. Oh, look, just checked the list and DJ BK will entertain you on Tues. Of course, the incomparable Philly George Project will continue Jazz Fridayz in the Star Bar; so, now your Galaxy 66 has it all - delicious food, out-of-this-world atmosphere and loads of entertainment. Congratulations to two amazing visionaries, Tammy & Roger!
Just heard Tommy Edward do his Sir Rod act at BJ’s last night. What energy, what stage presence, charisma and ability to communicate with his audience. And - best of all - he sounds so much like Rod Stewart. I love him! You can hear Tommy again tonight and Sat. night at The Ocean Club in the beautiful Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel with his full band including the beautiful and talented Melissa Rose on keyboards and vocals. Here’s another one just loaded with energy and what a voice! Enjoy a full night of danceable rock music at the Ocean Club. Full Circle was great, as always, last weekend.
Guess who’s doing an encore performance of opening weekend at M.R. Ducks - yey! It’s Tranzfusion on Sat. The only thing I don’t like about this band is that they keep me from going to hear anyone else - I just can’t pull myself away. One superb performance after another of the greatest hits the rock world has known - played to perfection. Get onboard.
Another group who is perfect and rocks ‘80s tunes to perfection? Chest Pains are performing tonight, Fri., at BJ’s!! It’s like a must-see event every time we hear them. Why doesn’t it get old? Again, it has to be that the music that is so good, and the memories that the songs evoke, just keep us coming back for more. And these musicians, Byron, Chris, Jeff & Joe Mama are just the creme of the crop - outstanding!
It was a blast visiting Coconuts Beach Bar & Grill last week and getting a hug from John LaMere. We’ll be hearing him all over town this summer playing solo as he has all winter in Key West. Catch him next at 19th Hole on Wed. Tomorrow, Sat., the incomparable Joe Smooth on sax & wonderful guitarist & singer John Remy will team up to party with us at Coconuts. They make a great duo. The Sun. afternoon party will feature Blue Sky, Lucky & Konstantine (sorry if I spelled it wrong).
Melissa Alesi will perform tonight (Fri.) at High Stakes. A crowd favorite, Melissa has a full repertoire of classic hits and beautiful originals. Come early and party with Bobby Burns on keyboards, Fri.-Sun. Party safe!
