Coco Nights

By: Brenda Golden via Coconut Times
Hey guys. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday with friends and/or family watching the spectacular firework displays all over town. I chose to be downtown where I could take in the sights of the Boardwalk, then slip inside the Purple Moose to hear some excellent rock from a group called Slam. And later the guys from FUEL came in to catch the show. They’re in town for their big show tonight (Thur.) which I’m certainly looking forward to. Can’t wait to hear Kick It Out doing Heart tunes either - that’s Thurs. So ... instead of writing a lot, I’ve decided to say it with pictures this week ‘cause I’m tired. Yep, burnin’ the candle at both ends takes its toll eventually. Funny, though, how when you’re tired you can just ramble on forever about nothing like I’m doing now.
I do want to say I’m looking forward to seeing our dear friends from First Class returning to Ocean City to play at Coconuts Beach Bar & Grill on Sat. at 5pm. Locals and many visitors have been friends and fans for the many years Danny (a master on saxophone) and his group were the main fixtures at the Ocean Club. But changes come ‘round and other doors open. Come join us!
I’ve been to see the Ray Pittman Project recently and highly recommend that you take time to relax and enjoy the ocean breezes from atop the deck at Lenny’s Beach Bar & Grill in the Clarion Fontainebleau Hotel. Here’s another guy who we fell in love with when his group the Kingpins played at the Ocean Club - Ray Pittman. He has a most distinctive voice that lends itself well to soulful blues and rockin’ R&B; especially moving on those powerful love ballads - he just grabs your heart. Hear them all weekend and more during the summer.
I hear that Tranzfusion drew a huge crowd for the 4th of July festivities at Lighthouse Sound and not surprising to me. I don’t care how many times I hear them play (and everyone else tells me this, too), they just blow me away with their incredible recreations of some of the most important music of our generation - that stands the test of time for generations to come. Their song list is endless. We can hear them play at Coins on Sat. and again at M.R. Ducks on Sun. A real treat!
The Mood Swingers have a new bass player named Ted who adds a lot to the group, which is saying something because Lauren is amazing on keyboards/vocals, Mike is amazing on guitar, and Bubba really kicks it up on drums and vocals too. So, go hear them tonight, Fri., at Johnny’s Pizza Pub.
Here’s another ‘can’t wait’ event - Set The Controls at Fager’s Island Sun. playing amazing Pink Floyd tunes. You won’t believe it. Party safe, friends!
