Coco Nights

By: Brenda Golden via Coconut Times
Hi, music fans. Are you ready for our last big hurrah of the summer? Although a few deck party venues will be over, September may be my favorite month - beautiful weather and still lots of great music with not so many people, right? Despite the crazy weather - flooding in Berlin was terrible - the Bikini Parade was a huge success last weekend. We may not have broken the record but I think if the threat of rain hadn’t been looming overhead, we would have. Thanks to all for coming out and let’s try again next year.
As all of you know who were at the Concert in the Park (Northside Park) for Mary Lou & The Untouchables, Mary Lou collapsed onstage and for precautionary measures, was taken to AGH - a little diabetic problem. She really wanted to stay and perform for you all and she has asked me to send her love and thanks for the concern shown by all her fans.
I didn’t get out to hear a lot over the weekend as daughter Colleen was in the hospital to have a faulty gall bladder removed. Deja vu! I had mine out last July. She’s home now and improving daily - thank the Lord! And thanks for all your well wishes.
I was at Coconuts last night (Wed.) to hear John LaMere and was reminded that Michael Tracey White Day is coming up. Here’s what music fan Tish Michel has to tell us about it.
Friends and family of Michael Tracey White will celebrate his life on September 10 at Coconuts Beach Bar & Grill located on 38th St., Castle in the Sand. Michael died Labor Day weekend six years ago. Musicians Joe Mama, Kevin Poole and Randy Lee Ashcraft are taking the lead in organizing “Music for Michael Day” again this year. Musicians interested in participating should contact one of them.
Please come for lunch and enjoy the music as our local musicians join together to remember our friend Michael who had a regular gig with Joe Smooth on Mondays at Coconuts for many years. Since Michael's passing, Bob Wilkerson has joined the Monday slot with Joe at Coconuts.  I was there last Monday and Bob ended the day thanking the audience and then looking up and thanking Michael for the beautiful day.  They then finished the gig by playing “Fly Me to the Moon” which Michael taught Bob.  Joe and Bob always end this gig paying respect to Michael and playing this song.  Michael was so loved and respected - please come on out for this wonderful event.
Thanks, Tish. I’m gonna close out early this week and go find some music. Party safe!
