Coco Nights

By: Brenda Golden via Coconut Times
Hey, y’all! Lots of excitement in town for the DEW Tour. Even if you never watch any of the Extreme Sports on TV, you can’t help but be captivated by the incredible stunts these guys do and just the sheer size of the skate/bike bowl that’s been built on our beach is an amazing feat of engineering. You’ve gotta come to the Boardwalk and catch some of the action - or watch it on TV, you couch potatoes. LOL!
We had a blast last week hearing Dr. Harmonica & Rocket 88 play at the 45th St. Bayside Taphouse last week and I’m happy to report that the band will be back tonight, Fri., to do it again. So, if you were there, I know you’ll be back; and if you weren’t, you have another chance. Last week legendary sax man Daryl Ray Jenkins from Philadelphia was with the group and he was great.
Talk about sax mans, you’ll want to go hear 2 Much Stuff w/ Joe Smooth on sax at Jive Sat. These guys put on a great show, too. And you know what, Tear The Roof Off is playing there Fri. and they either have trumpet or sax in their group - all fine musicians.
There’s so much to do, see and hear that it’s difficult to mention all the great acts available so I’ve run extra pictures, and be sure to go over the “Who’s Where When.” Rob Fahey is bringing back his band The Pieces for an encore performance at Johnny’s Pizza Pub on Sat. They were tremendously good last time out so I highly recommend this show.
The gang at M.R. Ducks really enjoyed the music of King’s Ransom last week. Danny Shivers on lead guitar has a magnificent voice - I swear if he weren’t into rock he would be great on the New York stage. Friend Dom who he’s known since early school days and played music with since their teens, was on bass and sang a lot too. Then there was the multi-talented Brian Bishop (also in Jettstream) who contributes keyboards, guitar, flute, sax and vocals to give the band a wide spectrum of material from which to choose. And the amazing drummer Rick Webster (formerly with Tom Larsen and Lower Case Blues). Excellent group; hope to see them back at Ducks. Kevin Poole & The Gang is there tonight, Friday. Also an awesome group with John Remy on lead guitar who is also lead in 2 Much Stuff.
Judas Priestess is coming back Thur. These ladies know how to rock the stage - the guys were up front drooling through the whole show. Sorry, guys, but you know you were. Fabulous show! And Whitehouse Effect will be rockin’ the Moose this weekend. Party safe!
