Hi, everyone, how ya doin’ out there? This is the day of reckoning for the White Marlin Opening. I heard an 83-pound White was caught on Wed. Will anyone beat that? Only the tale at the scales will tell. I’m sure there will be much celebrating and fishing stories going around town this weekend - congratulations to all the winners.
Seacrets has the winning ticket in entertainment this week with not one but two special shows on the lineup. We loved them last summer so there’s no doubt that Rusted Root will be a crowd pleaser again this year, playing on Tue. But I have to say I’m more excited to hear the group coming on Wed. that bills themselves as the ultimate ‘80s tribute show - they are Rubix Kube. What seems to set them apart is that the band takes on music by so many artists ranging through many genres: Pop, Rock, New Wave, Dance and Hair Metal, mostly thanks to the chameleon-like ability of the bands two talented frontmen, Cherie Martorana and Scott Lovelady, to imitate the popular stars of the era. Among those providing the kaleidoscope of music will be Steve Brown, whom you may know from Trixter; and David Z from Trans Siberian Orchestra. The band has shared the stage with many of the artists they imitate such as Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Bret Michaels, Dee Snider, MC Hammr, Colin Hay (Men at Work) and many more. And visually? It’s also a kaleidoscope of colors from those dayglow days of head bands and leg warmers. Check out their website and you’ll see what I mean. Better yet, I’ll see you at Seacrets Wed. for Rubix Kube. Fri. & Sat. favorites Jah Works.
We had a blast at the Beatlemania Again show at Fager’s Island last Sun., didn’t we? The dance floor stayed full from beginning to end with people just singing along and reliving the glory days.We get to do that again this Sun. with music from Billy Joel as played by Robert Eric Piano Man and his wonderful band. Robert was a hit last year playing the music of one of our generation’s most prolific songwriters, Billy Joel. Joel’s range of sounds and styles in addition to wonderful lyrics is what has always drawn me to his music. Come join me as we sing along - “sing me a song I’m the Piano Man...” with Robert Erick Piano Man at Fager’s Island Sun.
I can’t wait to finish up here today and head over to M.R. Ducks to hear the great Dr. Harmonica & Rocket 88 playing a special date for this WMO week. Last Sun. at Ducks we were a little worried that the deck wouldn’t hold up with the huge crowd gathered to enjoy the music of Tranzfusion. It was amazing - a great day of music from a great band. And, by the way, we can hear them again Sat. at Coins. This weekend at Ducks is more fun with Johnny Bling (Fri.), Lime Green Band (Sat.) and Lauren Glick & The Mood Swingers who will absolutely rock you out. Lauren and the boys are real busy this weekend with dates at BJ’s on Fri. and The Pour House on Sat. Every show is different but you can always count on the music from Mike, Bubba & Ted to be the best it can be.
I heard a new trio at Fager’s Island the other day called Misfit Toys. Jeff, Oscar & Tony met up with John LaMere down in Key West where the guys play with different bands but decided to put together this trio to check out Ocean City. They were most entertaining and can be heard again Sat. at the Ocean Pines Yacht Club and Sun. at the Ropewalk Oyster House. Check ‘em out. While I’m thinking Yacht Club, you know we don’t get to hear Tom Larsen a lot these days so if you’re a fan of the rockin’ blues, get over to the new Yacht Club and party with him and his band Fri.
After Dr. Harmonica today (Thur.), I’m heading over to the Purple Moose to hear Apple Scruffs, the Beatles tribute band I told you about last week. I sure hope to see you all there. The Moose’s next tribute will be Thur. again with Toys In The Attic playing a tribute concert to Aereosmith. We heard them last year and they were dynamite.
Speaking of dynamite - if you were at M.R. Ducks when The Klassix played, you’ll be happy to know they will be playing on the mainstage at Fager’s Island on Thur., Aug 15. These guys, and a girl, Hollie, play everything under the sun and do it so well, audiences are on fire for more. Well, more is what we get Thur. Sound good? You bet! Party safe!
