Are you enjoying this glorious Indian Summer? I certainly am. It was a perfect day for the Rods & Rockers Car Show at the Steer Inn last Sat. and continued pretty for Bird Dog & The Road Kings on Sun. at M.R. Ducks. It was a magnificent sunny day for Bethany & Kevin Poole who celebrated their Dec. wedding with a huge party on their lawn for family and friends. Congratulations all over again.
    The last of the season Monday Deck Party at Fager’s Island was a blast with DJ Batman who paid tribute to his big sis Bobbie on her birthday. And then later, The Chest Pains put on a fabulous show onstage. I’m still putting together some bio information on these four talented guys to share with you in an upcoming issue. Meanwhile, there are two opportunities to hear the new Coconut Times Entertainers of the Year recipients: first this Sat. at M.R. Ducks and on Fri., Oct. 21 at The Steer Inn Tavern. Be there!
    Farewell to all the Reel Inn folks at the end of another fantastic season for them. Their closing party was loads of fun, especially at night when Tim Cyphers and Animal (Danny Morgan) showed up. Tim has a wonderfully melodious voice and is a fine guitar player whose music is frenetically punctuated by the conga and percussion sounds of Danny (or Animal or Danimal, as he’s been nicknamed). I would say he plays with complete abandon if not for the fact that each and every move is precise and sharp. What a duo!
    From there I travled to BJ’s where Electric Velvet, featuring the astonishing vocals of Kristin, was on-the-money rockin’. I love to hear her and husband/bassist Anthony sing duets, too, as their voices blend so wonderfully - romantic fantasies in my head.
    Romance is the theme in all Rod Stewart songs and we heard them in abundance Wed. at BJ’s when Tommy Edward presented his Sir Rod show - Solo!! What an amazing performer! His vocals are perfect - sounds just like Stewart but maybe even a little better - “Stand up, sit down, get out!” He even had a little curtain set up where he could slip behind for shirt changes - a la Stewart. And ... on several songs he added his own live sax parts - another sexy touch to a very musically and visually appealing show. Tommy and his group including the lovely Melissa Rose, will appear tonight (Fri.) at the 707 Sports Bar in West O.C. Sincere condolences to Bev Flynn and the 707 staff who are forging ahead without Carey. He would want us all to continue to have a good time in his bar. We can all still hear him saying, “I love this bar!” Party safe!
