ShoreBread has traveled all over the Eastern Shore, across Maryland and Delaware for our Beer Tour and one of our destinations landed us in Milton, Delaware at the internationally known, “off-centered,” Dogfish Head Brewery. However, the Dogfish Head company is now diving into an entirely different market than kegs and savory brews. That’s right; owner Sam Calagione recently opened the Dogfish Inn in Lewes, Delaware. We cannot wait to take a trip to the waterfront town to vacation and indulge in the full Dogfish Head experience.

So what does the Inn have to offer during your stay? Beer scented air conditioning wafting through the rooms? Well maybe not that, but waterfront views are available due to the building’s location on the historic harbor in Lewes. Each room also comes with a fridge stocked with snacks from local stores, original paintings from artist Steve Rogers, and other Dogfish memorabilia like custom blankets and hand soap.

Dogfish Inn also offers a chance to relax in the style of the “bygone era of family vacations, big cars and endless summers.” As a result, there are multiple chances to gather as a family and spend some quality time together. For example, in each room there is a specific place that is not for sleeping, not for eating, but instead made for gathering and conversing. Also, outside there is a cowboy cauldron where families can come together at night around a fire and reminisce about how much fun they had that day.

The location of the 16 room hotel also makes it an ideal place to stay. Halfway between the Dogfish production brewery in Milton and the brewpub and distillery in Rehoboth Beach, Dogfish Inn makes a great starting point on your own beer tour. On your second day of staying in Lewes you may want to check out the sweet little town. Located right on the Delaware Bay, just about any kind of water sport is available. For a more laid back day, visit Henlopen State Park for a beach trip and fishing! Or take a quick trip on the ferry and spend the day in Cape May, New Jersey.

Find sites that take us back to the swash-buckling days of old, right in town! You can also visit Ryves Holt House, the oldest house standing in Delaware. It is now a gift shop but also serves as the starting point for many walking tours like the Lewes history tour, the family tour and ghost tours. Also, the Lewes Historical Society Complex is made of nine different historical buildings that give a peak into different aspects of past life.
