SNOW HILL- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity indoor track team last week captured the Bayside Conference championship, while the girls’ varsity team finished a close second.

The Seahawk boys claimed the conference championship with 170 total team points including a handful of individual titles. Kent Island was second with 111 total team points, while Queen Anne’s was third with 62. Meanwhile, the Decatur girls finished second overall with 111 points, while Kent Island was first with 128 and North Caroline was third with 77.5

For the Decatur boys, Kyle Kelly was first in the 300, while Jakhai Woodard was third and James Mapp was fourth. Lucas Duker was first in the high jump, while Khaalid Collick finished third and Ben Short was 8th. Patrick Phillips was first in the shot put, while John Childs was fifth and Gerardo Navarro was seventh.

In other boys’ events, Mapp was second in the 55-meter dash, while Woodard was sixth. Kelly finished third in the 500, while Dan Winters came in sixth and Jackson Mumford was seventh. Winters also finished fourth in the 800.

Decatur’s Zach Elmer finished fifth in the 1,600, while Kevin Herbert was eighth. Noah McAleer finished sixth in the 3,200. Duker was fourth in the 55 hurdles, while James Phillips was sixth. The Seahawks excelled in the relays, finishing first in the 4x200, first in the 4x400 and second in the 4x800. In the pole vault, Zach Watters was second and Sunny Aroh was third.

The Decatur girls also turned in strong individual performances. Layla Fowler was third in the 300, while Annie Brown finished fifth. Fowler was second in the 500, while Chloe FauntLeroy was third. FauntLeroy was second in the 800, while Jenna Leitgib came in seventh. Jordan Klebe finished seventh in the 1,600, while Alex Tushup was fifth in the 3,200. Emily Kolarik was second in the 55 hurdles. The Decatur girls also did well in the relays, finishing second in both the 4x400 and the 4x800 and fourth in the 4x200.

In the field events, Decatur’s Ameerah Lewis won the shot put, while Brown was fifth. Alexandra Saunders was second in the high jump, while Hannah Wilson was third. Katie Collins finished second in the pole vault, while Kacie Moore finished third.
