By: DispatchAdmin via Maryland Coast Dispatch

BERLIN- With the state championships in the books, the nets cut down and the celebrations over, the Bayside South Conference this week announced the post-season accolades for boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball and the local teams were well represented on the lists.

On the girls’ side, Decatur head coach Katie Coates was named Bayside South Coach of the Year by her peers, while Pocomoke standout Dynaisha Christian was named Player of the Year in the conference. Decatur’s Dayona Godwin, who surpassed the school’s career scoring mark this year and finished the season with over 2,000 career points, headline the Bayside South First-Team All-Conference list along with Christian. Joining Godwin and Christian in the First-Team All-Conference list were Danasia Roberts of Washington, Taylor Ross of Mardela and Kayla Handy of Parkside. Named to the Bayside South Second-Team All-Conference were Amaya Mumford of Decatur, Tymera Deshields of Pocomoke, Aerionna Joynes of Mardela, Lakiah Wright of Wicomico and Shayla Jones of Pocomoke.

On the boys’ side, conference champion and state champion Pocomoke dominated the awards. Pocomoke’s Derrick Fooks was named Coach of the Year in the Bayside South and Tyler Nixon was named Player of the Year in the conference. The Bayside South First-Team All-Conference list included Decatur’s Torrey Brittingham and Keve Aluma, along with Tyrone Matthews of Pocomoke, Gary Briddell of Parkside and Jordan Brittingham of Wicomico.
