Brendan Dooley, a classically trained flutist, and Deborah Dewold Emery, a professional pianist and a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops, will entertain at the event that will benefit the Douglas I. Smith Scholarship Endowment.
The endowment is a program close to Dooley’s heart. In 2007, Dooley and his family moved from Massachusetts to Snow Hill. Upon the move, Dooley began working with Smith, a Salisbury musician and teacher who saw something special in Dooley and encouraged him to follow his dreams.
Upon Smith’s passing, a memorial scholarship was set up at the Wicomico Arts Council, and Dooley is hoping to raise funds for it at next Wednesday’s concert.
In the past three years, Dooley has received a number of accomplishments including being named a 2010 Young Artist Recipient in the Music Worcester Competition; was one of eight finalists for the 2011 National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition; won the 2011 Boston Youth Symphony Audition on Peter and the Wolf; and has been a member of the Boston Flute Academy for two years.
To reserve a seat for this event, called a “A Celebration of Gratitude” and beginning at 6:30 p.m., call 410-251-5023. Cost is $50 per tickets and includes dinner and concert. Cash bar offered.
