FALL & WINTER BODY MAINTENANCE PART II

By: Linda Sears via Coconut Times

Last week’s article covered maintaining your tan and keeping your feet smooth and feeling good. This week let’s focus on our face and hands. The cold weather and turning your heat on have totally different effects on your body, inside and out. So when the changes happen, it is a shock to your system, your mind and even changes your mood. Some people get depressed when it gets cold and the end of daylight savings time rolls around. Let’s work together on emerging in the Spring, like a butterfly, looking and feeling good. YOU IN?

BEAUTY TIP #1 – Remember to always wash off your makeup before you go to bed. Use Aveeno Moisture Foaming Facial Cleanser using a very hot washcloth and the foaming wash to remove your makeup. Continue to cover your face, neck and chest with the hot washcloth. Then apply your night moisturizer. I combine Avon’s Anew Platinum Night Cream, Garnier Skin Renew Dark Spot Corrector, Nutrigena Rapid Wrinkle Repair and a dollop of Neosporin. Rub this combo all over your face, neck and shoulders. Did you know that while you sleep your body sluffs off dead skin cells? So ... make sure that when you wake up in the morning, you buff not only your face, but your whole body. All through the winter months if you continue this regimen, you will keep your face, neck and shoulders looking refreshed and radiant.
When you wake up in the morning, using the same hot washcloth, clean your face and apply the same combo of creams, only substitute the Anew Night with Day Cream, and only a tiny drop of Neosporin. Apply your favorite foundation. Mine is Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse. It really works well with my moisturizer combo and blends in and into all the nooks and crannies and gives me a pretty, pretty fresh look. I apply a light, rosy cheek blush; lightly in the day and go a little darker at night. Blending the lighter shades when using the shadows on your eyes gives you a fresh, brighter look. If you go darker, it makes you look older.
Fall and Winter brings on the wine and darker shades of lipstick. Just be careful not to go too red; unless you want to look like Marilyn Monroe. Guess it really depends on your coloring, hair, eyes, skin; and what color you are wearing that day. My lip colors are the rose and light wines for the Fall and Winter.

BEAUTY TIP #2 – Do your hands show your age? I have heard this and I don’t know if I really believe it or not. the sun really does age the skin on the backs of your hands. I found a hand cream from Avon in the Anew line of products just like what I use on my face. It’s called Luminosity Brightening Hand Cream. It has an SPF 15 and it’s very light and creamy. I have been applying it day and night on the backs of my hands as I get ready for bed. During the day if you are not wearing gloves, think about how often your hands are in the direct sun. Just remember that.

BEAUTY TIP #3 – As I age, my nails have turned to paper thin, won’t grow, they split and have ridges. I tried going to a nail salon to get the acrylics. I realized after just a few months that my whole nail was dying. After speaking to my doctor, she informed me that the splitting and the ridges was a sign of a Vitamin D deficiency. I did not want my nails to die, so I stopped using the acrylics and began a Vitamin D supplement regimen. My friends Paige and Lisa go every few weeks and have their nails done at a local salon and they are beautiful. The artist work coming from some of these local salons is spectacular. I met a friend, her name is Barbara Griswold, at Smitty McGee’s who had an alergic reaction to the acrylic nail. She ended up in the hospital. As a result, she found a nail salon in New York City called Dashing Diva. They use a clear, full cover nail clip that is applied by using a surgical nail glue. Her nails are now back to normal and healthy. She wanted me to pass this information along so as to help others not go through the pain that she had experienced. If you are not alergic and the acrylic nails are working for you, just please try and give your nails a rest every few months like Barbara does and make sure that the nail bed is still healthy. Thanks to all who have provided tips and pictures for my articles - keep them coming. lindasears53@aol.com
