OCEAN PINES — Ocean Pines Police are still unsure what caused a Brooklyn Park, Md. man to steer his scooter from Ocean Parkway and into a tree on July 4.
Around 9:18 p.m., a motor scooter operated by David Allan Biggs, 50, left the roadway at the intersection of Ocean Parkway and Breezeway Lane, and collided with a tree in the center median. Biggs, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles, nor persons, were involved in the incident.
Traffic was blocked in both directions as rescue personnel cleared debris, causing irregular backups as citizens leaving Showell Park following an Independence Day fireworks display returned to homes in Ocean Pines.
The Worcester County Sheriff’s Department is currently assisting the Ocean Pines Police Department in the investigation.
