Indoor Track Teams Off To Solid Starts

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track teams turned in solid performances in the first meet of the 2015-2016 season last week with several individual athletes placing at or near the top in their events.

On the girls’ side of the first Bayside Conference meet last week, the Decatur girls dominated the pole vault event with Katie Hofman finishing first overall and Jillian Mitrecic finishing second. In the high jump, Decatur’s Christina Romano finished third while Bethany Williams was seventh. In the long jump, Williams was fifth and Khalin Wise was ninth. Williams also finished fifth in the triple jump.

In the girls’ track events, Alison Alvarado was third in the 1,600 and Romano was fourth in the 300. Alvarado was second in the 3,200, while Peyton Dunham was fourth. In the 55-meter hurdles, Adrianna Serpe was eighth and Emily Cook was ninth. Brigitte Ardis finished seventh in the 800, while Peyton Townsend was ninth. The Decatur girls also fared well in the relays, finishing seventh in the 4×800, sixth in the 4×400 and ninth in the 4×200.

On the boys’ side, Decatur’s Cameron James was ninth in the 1,600, while Chance Coley was 10th. Jack Reimer finished sixth in the 3,200, while Javier Hernandez was eighth. Tyrese Milbourne finished ninth in the 500, while Devon Mickels was 10th in the 55-meter hurdles. In the field events, Decatur’s Avante Purnell was fourth in the high jump and seventh in the long jump, while Milbourne was eighth in the long jump. Lukas Finecey was eighth in the shot put, while Patrick Miller was 10th.
