Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton this week announced the town has a firm confirmation from the United Central Bank, which owns the Thrift Travel Inn on N. Salisbury Blvd., to demolish the structure long a thorn in the side of city officials. The bank agreed to demolish the motel after the city agreed to extend the deadline for bringing the property into compliance.
Due to lack of maintenance, disrepair and ongoing life safety violations, the structure was eventually condemned and ordered vacated. A demolition order was then issued and ignored and as a result a municipal infraction was issued.
“United Central Bank is proceeding with obtaining the proper permits from the state and the city,” Ireton said.
