Seahawks Fall To Bucs On Homecoming

By: DispatchAdmin via Maryland Coast Dispatch

BERLIN- Decatur’s season-opening losing streak continued with a 35-19 loss to Kent Island on Homecoming last Friday.

The Seahawks’ record now stands at 0-4 on the season despite remaining competitive in nearly each of the early season contests. By and large, with its young and mostly inexperienced roster, the Seahawks have shown good strides in most of their games thus far, but have not been able to sustain most positives for an entire four quarters.

The scenario played out again last Friday against Kent Island when the Seahawks hung with the Buccaneers for the better part of three quarters and actually led twice in the first half before the visitors pulled away late. Sam Coates got Decatur on the board in the first quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run and after a missed extra point, the Seahawks led 6-0.

Kent Island responded with a 70-yard drive culminating in a touchdown to take a 7-6 lead. Decatur’s Matt LeCompte then returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to put the Seahawks ahead again at 13-7. However, the lead was short-lived and the return for a touchdown was the last score of the Seahawks until late in the game.

Kent Island with a 10-play drive resulting in a touchdown with just over three minutes left in the second quarter to take a 20-13 lead into the half. Decatur came out in the third and moved the ball against Kent Island. However, the Seahawks turned the ball over and the Buccaneers went the other way for a touchdown to increase their lead to 28-13.

With just under four minutes remaining in the game, Kent Island scored a decisive touchdown to extend its lead to 35-13. Decatur got a late score on a touchdown pass from Justin Meekins to R.J. Hayman to cut the lead to 35-19.
