BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity soccer team took a tough loss in its season opener last week, falling to North Caroline, 2-1, on the road in double overtime.

The Seahawks opened on the road against always-tough North Caroline last Friday and played the Bulldogs tough for the entire contest. North Caroline scored first and Decatur tied it on a goal by Lupe Garcia. It would turn out to be Decatur’s lone goal on the afternoon despite opportunities.

Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie and the two teams played almost two overtime periods before the Bulldogs pulled out the 2-1 win. Sean Colgan was outstanding in the net for Decatur with seven saves. The Seahawks play their next three at home including Mardela on Monday and Queen Anne’s next Wednesday followed by another home game against Crisfield scheduled for September 22.
