BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team got its season off to a fast start last weekend with an impressive 21-7 win over Bohemia Manor in the home opener.

Wins were few and far between last season for the Seahawks, who finished with a 2-7 record, but with a fresh start and some familiar faces surrounded by promising newcomers, the outlook is brighter heading into the 2015 campaign. Decatur got its new season off to a good start last Friday at home with a 21-7 win over Bohemia Manor.

Decatur’s Tyree Henry, who missed last season with an injury, got the Seahawks off to a fast start with an 88-yard punt return in the first quarter. The scored remained 7-0 in favor of Decatur for much of the rest of the first half before Henry struck again. Henry caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Darion McKenzie with just over four minutes left to stake the Seahawks to a 14-0 lead at the intermission.

With time running down in the third quarter, Bohemia Manor finally got on the board. A 39-yard pass took Bohemia Manor down to the Decatur two yard line and they punched it in from there to cut the lead to 14-7. While Decatur had dominated for much of the contest, the outcome was still very much in doubt for a team that found inventive ways to lose games last year.

However, the Seahawks broke it open for good in the fourth quarter on a 64-yard touchdown run by multi-purpose player Dryden Brous. Brous’ touchdown gave the Seahawks a 21-7 lead they would not relinquish as Decatur opened the season 1-0. The Seahawks will travel to Wicomico High on Saturday for their first road game of the season.
