Seahawks Strong in First Indoor Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track teams turned in a strong performance in their first meet of the season last week with the boys finishing second overall and the girls coming in fourth.

The Seahawk boys scored 71 total team points to finish second behind Caesar Rodney, which accumulated 115 total team points. North Caroline was third with 65 points. The Decatur girls, meanwhile, finished fourth with 45.5 points. Cape Henlopen was first, followed by Caesar Rodney and Kent Island.

In terms of individual results, the Decatur boys placed at or near the top in several events. James Mapp was fourth in the 55, while Lucas Duker was fourth in the 55 high hurdles. In the 300, Decatur’s Kyle Kelly finished first, followed by Mapp in third and Jakhai Woodard in fourth. Dan Winters was third in the 500. In the relays, Decatur finished second in the 1,600 and fifth in the 3,200. The Decatur boys excelled in the field events with Woodard taking first and Khaalid Collick taking third in the long jump. Patrick Phillips was first in the shot put, while Zach Winters finished second in the pole vault.

On the girls’ side, Layla Fowler finished first in the 500, while Alexandra Tushup finished sixth and Jenna Abbaticchio finished seventh in the 3,200. In the relays, Decatur finished fourth in both the 3,200 and the 1,600. Ameerah Lewis finished first in the shot put, while Kacie Moore was second and Katie Collins was fourth in the pole vault. Hannah Wilson finished third in the high jump, while Annie Brown finished seventh.
