With the month of May upon us, locals and tourists alike are really starting to come out of the woodwork. I'm seeing more and more people out and about, riding bikes and taking walks. The weather was a little cranky there for a bit, but it looks like we're getting back to some agreeable temperatures.
I don't know about everyone else, but I get super excited when a new restaurant or bar opens in Ocean City! Especially when it's right on time with the warmer months of spring and summer. The most recent addition would be 45th Street Taphouse located right in the middle of the newly renovated 45th Street Village. There is no shortage of spectacular bayfront views in this brand spankin' new location; and with 36 beers on tap, mostly of the microbrew and craft ale variety, everyone's palette is sure to be pleased. Currently, they're open 7 days a week, from 11am-12am.
You know who else is open now? Macky's Bayside Bar & Grill at 54th Street on the bay. They'll be serving up libations and food starting at 3pm every Thursday through Sunday. I’m really looking forward to when their full-on entertainment schedule kicks back into gear. I don't think OC would be complete without a Macky's Tuesday night theme party!
In town on the weekends, getting your summer home ready for the season; or are you just itching for something to do? This weekend, you have options! On Friday, April 20th, go treat yourself to a fantastic meal and a cocktail at Galaxy 66, on 66th Street and Coastal Highway. At 8pm, The Philly George Project will be playing all your favorite jazz and R&B songs, with a touch of class! Look for these talented guys again the following Friday at the same time and same place. Make sure you stick around long enough to hear their rendition of Prince's "Purple Rain"...That's one of my favorites.
Afterwards, head south to Seacrets at 49th Street and 'de bay for entertainment from Lifespeed. They'll be playing in the Morley Hall Nite Club starting at 10pm. If you haven't had the chance to see these guys, I highly recommend it. Hailing from New Jersey, and playing roughly 200 shows a year, the guys in Lifespeed is dedicated to what they do, and it certainly shows. Their song library is one of the most diverse I've ever come across. Lead vocalist, Henry Robinson, delivers with accuracy every time and the vocal range of bassist and singer, Bobby August, is exceptional! If you're curious as to where Lifespeed's going to play next, visit
www.lifespeed.tv for more information.
Also, this weekend at Seacrets, on Saturday, the 21st, The Jon Maurer Band will be starting everything off with their happy hour set at 5pm. Stick around for the sunset and continue to party throughout the evening with Element K outside at 9pm. Then, at 10pm in the Nite Club, Joe Bachman & The Crew will be rockin' the stage for the famous Darkside Party.
The following weekend, Opposite Directions takes over the happy hour time slot at 5pm on Friday, April 27th; with Lucky You on the stage in the club at 10pm. Saturday, the 28th, our friends Full Circle will entertain the masses at 5pm; followed by Second Majesty at 9pm; and The Benderz in the Morley Hall at 10pm.
