Hey guys and gals! Are you ready for the weekend? I know I am! I have a serious case of spring fever. And with this wacky, indecisive weather--I have cabin fever too. I'm getting a little stir crazy being all cooped up inside.
Luckily...I have a cure for what ails me: Cinco de Mayo festivities! That's right! Saturday, May 5th is Cinco de Mayo (for all of you who aren't fluent in both Spanish and the language of "party")!
Kick your weekend off right by going to Seacrets on Friday the 4th for Jah Works. They hit the stage at 9pm with their sweet mix of reggae, roots, and dancehall. Since I'm a Baltimore native, I grew up listening to Jah Works. I love that even after relocating to the beach, I still have the opportunity to see them a ton of times throughout the warmer months. To me, it's just not summer without going to at least a handful of their shows. Their vibe is contagious! I guarantee you will be compelled to move within moments of hearing them.
If the weather decides to be agreeable on Saturday the 5th, go visit our friends at Coconuts Beach Bar and Grill at the Castle in the Sand on 36th street. Starting at 2pm, they'll have live entertainment from Kevin Poole and Joe Mama. So get over there early and grab a spot at the bar, or a table with plenty of seats for all your friends.
Can't make it on Saturday? Zion Reggae Band will be getting the people movin' here on Sunday, the 6th. And what's better than live reggae music on the beach? Absolutely nothing.
After dancing in the sand at Coconuts, head downtown to Talbot Street to MR Ducks, for some tunes, tasty drinks, and food on the bay. Bird Dog and The Road Kings are on at 5pm. They put the *happy* in happy hour with their patented blend of honky tonk, country, and blues. Don't be surprised if you see me there later on in the evening on the deck, getting my "shorebilly" groove on. It's been known to happen!
When the sun has set, and you're looking to keep the party going, cruise up to Macky's on 54th and the bay for DJ Jammin' Jeff at 10pm. And check out that sweet, newly extended dance floor! It runs all the way to the beach deck now, so there is no excuse to not be out there shaking it. This spring and summer, I'll be patroling the perimeter and making sure that there are absolutely no wallflowers. Consider yourself warned!
Also not to be missed is Macky's Sunday brunch and Bloody Mary bar. If you just can't get enough, make your triumphant return to this fine establishment the following morning for some "hair of the dog". Like I always say, Sunday Funday doesn't truly begin until that first sip!
Well, time to bust out the bike and give her a once over. I have some boardwalk cruising to catch up on and some sun to soak up. Until next time, party hard--but party responsibly. Hasta luego!
