Sonic Notes

By: Kasey Briggs via Coconut Times
First I’d like to thank everyone who came out for the CD release debauchery last weekend at the Dive. Sure we could have chosen a bigger venue but there’s nothing that makes The Limbs happier than mosh pits and food fights in the basement. It was as it should be. Not that I remember much of it.
So I’m starting to get a little excited about the solo appearance of G. Love next week at Seacrets. I first heard him 19 years ago when I moved here and have been a huge fan ever since.
Despite being a long-time fan I’m sure this small timer has a snowballs chance of getting to chat with him so I’ll do what I do best. Keep it local. I decided to do it in two parts. Next week I will write about the lucky dog that got the opening slot for the show on the 30th but this week I’m focusing on a band who’s already had that honor.
LCB, respectively, has been bangin it around the eastern shore for a little over 9 years now and has been following a steady schedule and built a large enough fan base that allows them the luxury of being full time musicians - a sure sign that they’re the best at their craft and have acclaimed the title “best band in Delaware”—Delaware Today ’09.
I caught them at High Stakes one night and after losing touch with them for a couple years it was obvious the work ethic was still alive. You can measure the salt of a band by the amount of time and work they put into keeping it fresh and new. The fusion of blues and funk has offered them an opportunity to be as creative with the craft as they wish and ignore traditional boundaries.
BJ Muntz (bass/vox), Jake Banaszak (lead and only guitar) and Paul Weik (drums) are all Delaware natives and as I found out after the first set, three really humble fellas. Nothing more refreshing than not having to break through egos before getting to the bone. The questions of hobbies and interests was met with shoulder shrugs as any normal person would give. Bowling, beach and perpetrator of fine cuisine was the answer I got.  I’ll let you match the player.
Among their many accomplishments was sitting in with Kelly Bell and G. Love himself. To their credit, though, their most memorable was playing a show with the legendary Buddy Guy according to Jake.  In addition to playing with big names they’ve also put out three albums: “One More for the Road”, “Days to Come” and “Down Home Girl” are the three in order and I smell a theme there.
For their next big trick they’ll be at the Firefly festival this year with more big names like The Black Keys and Jack White just to name my favorites. If you have to miss that one you can check them out at one of their steady gigs at Duffy’s and High Stakes. They will also grace us downtowners and west siders with an August 18th  show at Trader Lee’s.
A little about - the Firefly Music Festival taking place July 20-22 at The Woodlands of Dover International Speedway, 87 acres of lush, wooded festival grounds nestled within the expansive 840-acre sports campus, offering the intimate feel of a backyard party with all the amenities of the world-class event complex. There will be four different stages: The Firefly Stage, The Lawn, The Backyard and The Porch. Lower Case Blues will be the opening act on Sunday, July 22, at 11:25-11:55 on The Porch. Firefly is now selling one-day passes; it may not be too late. www.lowercaseblues.net
So much to say, so little amount of words to fit so I offer all the info I can and then badger you to use it. Have a stellar week ‘erbody.
