It's here! That holiday we all wait (not so) patiently for every single year! Yesiree, it's time once again friends, for Memorial Day Weekend!
By now, I hope that you all have tuned up the beach cruisers and cleaned up the BBQ grills. The winter clothes need to be stowed away completely and you should have at least ONE new bathingsuit or set of trunks. But who am I to boss anyone around? I'm just looking out for you, the reader. I'm preparing you for the upcoming summer season. You'll thank me later.
Now, then, let's get down to brass tacks, shall we? As usual, there's a lot of live entertainment on the schedule for this week.
Have you had the chance to visit BJ's recently to see the newly expanded stage and dance floor? If you find yourself in the general vicinity this weekend, be sure to stop in and check it out. They're located at 75th Street on the bay and boast a great menu that is served every night until 1:30 am. Absolutely perfect for those of you who get a case of the late night munchies!
Appearing live at BJ's this weekend is the super talented Lauren Glick and The Mood Swingers on Friday May 25th at 9pm; our friends Full Circle on Saturday the 26th at 9pm; and on Sunday the 27th, don't miss Old School at 5pm.
Feel like throwing on some dapper duds and having a martini or two with your honey? I think you should head a few blocks north to Jive on 82nd Street and the bay. On Friday, Rum Riley is slated to play; those busy bees in Old School will be there on Saturday; and rounding out the weekend is Louis Wright on Sunday, the 27th. The entertainment at Jive starts at 8pm every night. Get there a little on the earlier side to secure you and your date a spot on the deck. The sunsets are amazing!
Now, a Sonic Notes written by yours truly just wouldn't be the same without the mere mention of reggae, so here goes: Have you guys heard of, or had the chance to see Lucky Dub yet? Please go check them out this weekend at Seacrets located at 49th Street and de bay. They'll be playing on Friday at 9pm; Saturday at 1pm; and Sunday at 9pm.
Hailing from Washington DC, these guys are masters of blending many genres of music together while using reggae as their common denominator. They keep it upbeat, positive, and super funky! And get this: Not only does their musical style span the globe, but so do the members of the band! In addition to having the east and west coasts of the USA covered, Lucky Dub also consists of musically talented members from Russia, South America, West Africa, and the Caribbean. Now that's the epitome of world music, right there. Visit
www.luckydub.com for more backstory on the band, as well as some great full-length audio clips.
Well, I've got a tan to work on and some backyard grilling to tend to! Here's to a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend, guys and gals. I'll see you on the beach or on the dance floor! Cheers!
