Sonic Notes

By: Kasey Briggs via Coconut Times
I was rollin’ back to town from a day trip to Annapolis last Monday and was greeted by that mellow September feeling. I was almost the only vehicle on 50 eastbound. I caught every green light to 28th St. and had a spot right in front of my apartment.
Back in the younger years the feeling was a bittersweet one. I was relieved for peace and quiet yet saddened to see summer end.
These days the feeling I get the week before Labor Day comes with a sense of getting things back. We can all walk back in to places like Seacrets and Fager’s and find a stool that isn't soaked with college kids and the 12 Jäger bombs they tried to carry all at once.
Full Circle is undoubtedly one of the most fun bands this town has ever seen and I'm excited that their schedule doesn't end with the season. Meaning I'm not afraid to walk into Seacrets anymore.
This highly talented five-peice has only been together four years but logs enough experience to humble the pile of newbees of which I currently sit in.
With set lists ranging from Michael Jackson to Miranda Lambert, I'm convinced there's not much this fun bunch can't do. In between their homage from the king of pop to the sweetest voice in country is a mixed bag of covers from the likes of Adele, Foo Fighters and classics from legends such as Fleetwood Mac and Heart.
Despite a punk rock reputation I have a secret swing in my hips for disco. Full Circle is one of the only bands I've seen that can actually pull it off.
"The point is that everybody is having fun," says guitar/vocalist Kathy Denk. From my personal experience I can give two thumbs up for a job well done every time.
Most times I've seen Full Circle was while I was employed at Coins Pub. To express how fun this band really is I'll say it's rare that an entire staff gets off work and instead of dispersing to their respective watering holes, they choose to stay in the place they couldn't wait to get out of and away from the people they couldn't wait to escape from, to dance and party with one another.
Starting at the front is Michelle Schachter on lead vocals. From what I understand Michelle is just about lead everything. When she's not running the family business or raising money for autism awareness, she's running this quintet as head maestro. She has a sweet and very diverse voice that seemingly has no bounds and a wonderful personality to compliment her role on the front line.
Before I continue with the remaining roster of Full Circle-onians I'd like to tell of the most impressive vocals of any band around. Each member has great range and tone and are fantastic with three and four part harmonies together. A difficult instrument to master. If you've ever attempted it you understand it's difficulty and importance
Next is guitar/vocalist and long time friend Kathy Denk. I've been witness to Kathy's progress since her days with Agent 99 and there's no doubt she has worked very hard to get as good as she is as quickly as she has accomplished it. When Kathy isn't wailing away on the Wilson Sisters, she's out painting the town. Literally. An accomplished local artist who has no specialty canvas. From murals to wine glasses, if it holds paint, Kathy can grace it with great art.
Gary Yokois on drums blows the mind with his knowledge and attention to details. You see there's a lot of things that drummers of the writing class do to make their songs unique to a song or a band. Gary definitely hears and delivers these details to assure a solid backline. In addition to his drum talents, you can thank him for that fresh beer you're drinkin’. He's one of the team that keeps our beer flowing clean in the keg lines. A guy’s gotta have priorities, ya know?
Jeff Davis on bass is another around town artist with his hand on the second thing we see entering OC. Weavers is, in addition to many others, one of his sign company’s clients. "The bass slut," as he's referred to, can also be spotted sitting in with other bands such as The Chest Pains.
On keys and most lead guitars is Dave Wimbrow, a multi-talented gent who keeps his full time occupation a mystery. I'm gonna go with full time musician and Ravens fan. He has weapons, so don't stand in front of the TV during the games.
It's been brought to my attention that I make mistakes now and again. One in particular last week was a little embarrassing but it happens. If you find any and wanna have a yuk with me about my bad writing skills, I'll be at Seacrets this Monday, the third, around 5 to catch Full Circle on the beach. Crazy says I owe you a beer for calling me out and then...  We dance.
