Sonic Notes

By: Kasey Briggs via Coconut Times
Nobody informed me that writing about your own band isn't against the rules so hi, I'm Kasey. Aka bass player for the Phantom Limbs and the following article is going to be a perfect example of shameless self promotion.
If you've only heard the name or caught our picture in the papers then you know nothing of what our little power trio is about. The term power trio itself has been grossly misused too often these days. Lots of trios. Not a lot of power so when I use it, believe that what you are about to experience is everything we've got. Our chiropractors have the x rays and can vouch for our dedication to a show.
In my world, Ryan Abbott is a guitar genius with an unstoppable imagination. His sound is the brainchild of his love for the "surf guitar". The bi-product of an era when tube amps ruled. With the likes of Dick Dale as his heaviest influence he has more than proven his ability to rip and shred.
Randolph Showell, aka "Saint RAS the Mechanic," is the heaviest and most unique drummer around these parts. An opinion that is shared by anyone who has ever felt the sonic boom he delivers on the regular. His style is all his own with every influence considered and placed precisely where it belongs.
Randy doesn't think, he reacts, evolves and most times conducts the band from the back line. He plays hard, fast and loud and has become a defining factor to the Limbs’ originality. He is by far the best drummer I've ever had the pleasure of sharing the stage with.
And now for me... 5 words:  just trying to keep up. I won't write about myself so you'll just have to offer up your opinion for me but I've been told I'm a better singer than bassist. I personally think I'm a better beer taster than anything.
When we started the first CD of our trilogy and the artwork was on the table, we were in the middle of a mild obsession with zombies and the apocalypse. "Night of the Living Surf", "Aberzombie and Flesh" and "Return of the Dead Guy" turned out to solidify our place on Halloween. We have now become, if nothing else, a "must stop" during, what we consider, the greatest holiday ever.
Over the years we have turned our little show into quite an event where the locals of our generation come to bang some heads and reunite for a celebration of the dead.
This year we are taking it all the way downtown with one of our favorite local and original punk band "Chainsaw Riot". If you missed them for the Dew Tour, then I recommend getting your tukus to the Pour House a little early for this one.
The Downtown Halloween Horror Show:  Saturday, October 27th. The Pour House on the corner of Wicomico and Baltimore. NO COVER and there will be a $100 cash prize for best costume. Come and let us show you why every day should be Halloween. Be safe 'erbody and look both ways before crossing.
We also have a great time when we play at Matteo’s Salsa Loco. Next time there is Thur., Nov. 8 and we’ll be back every first Thur. of the month. This time out we’ll be joined by Adele & the Sticky Bun Crew. Come out and join the fun. It’s been a pleasure sharing my musical musings with you.
