Fireworks & more fireworks! I just love them, always have & always will. Although the 4th was yesterday, we still have all weekend to celebrate. Hail to the Red, White & Blue! Be sure to check out Nate Sounds Off in this issue for some great songs with lyrics that include our country’s colors. A fun game might be to think of more…there are a lot.
Dirty Heads put on a great concert at Seacrets last Sunday! It was a great crowd & a lot of fun. Coming up this Monday another great concert opportunity awaits. From Huntington Beach (where I will be heading in 3 weeks), Reel Big Fish will be performing at Seacrets. You will probably remember this band as the popular 90’s ska-punk band whose single “Sell Out” became a popular favorite on the radio and MTV. Their lyrics are known to be rather inappropriate and may have caused parents to forbid their kids from listening to them. On July 31st, 2012 Reel Big Fish released their 7th studio album, Candy Coated Fury. The album’s name is a great description of what you will find inside. Most songs pertain to relationships gone awry. Although the word play is very bitter and angry, it is also humorous and makes you want to dance. So for those of you who wish there was a song about how you “really” feel about an ‘ex’ who has done you wrong, then download a list of lyrics and come on out and shout along with the band. You can get your aggression out by singing, dancing and stomping instead of crying and sending drunken texts. Tickets are only $15 at the Seacrets boutique, but hurry, they will sell out. While you’re there, ask for a list of all upcoming concerts (or check out the ad in this issue) and get all your tix at one time so you won’t be without one.
There are so many options this week for great music. It depends on what you feel like getting into. Concerts on the Beach provide free, live entertainment with tribute bands and local favorites. This week you will be able to hear Sir Rod. If you love the songs by Rod Stewart, Tommy Edward does an amazing tribute with his soulful raspy voice. He plays at local establishments also, performing his act “old school Las Vegas style.” His performances, however, are not just limited to Rod Stewart songs; he also performs with a full band. Visit
tommyedward.com to see his schedule.
Another free outdoor music series is Sundaes in the Park. It is a family concert series offered Sunday evenings at Northside Park. Check the Coconut Times calendar for more information.
The town offers live entertainment at Sunset Park beginning Thur., July 11, with Full Circle. Just bring along your chair; refreshments available. Or check out the Ocean Pines Concert in the Park. On Thurs., July 11, they feature Only Better playing ‘50s and ‘60s rock. You can also catch live entertainment on the Somerset St. mall downtown Ocean City. So, you see, there are many family-oriented music venues available for your enjoyment.
I hope you all enjoy the rest of this holiday weekend and get out and hear the music and according to Frank Zappa…“Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST.”
