Sonic Notes

By: Cathy Germann via Coconut Times
“If miles turned to inches, you know that man would roll, all the way around the world tonight, look at him go. No jumping off the ride, at 30 miles per hour, iron brains and ball bearings give him the power”… a little excerpt from the song ‘Skateboard’ sung by Grace Slick with Jefferson Starship in 1976. Bikes, surfboards, skateboards, the sound of waves, bikinis, warm sand, beautiful sunsets, and great music… what more could the extreme sports enthusiast or extreme beach lover ask for? And it’s officially here! The Dew Tour has started and it finally feels like summer has begun. This event also has beach concerts presenting Krewella and New Politics & Talib Kweli and DJ Stimulus. Check out the schedule at dewtour.com and read Nate’s Sonic Notes.
What better way to harmonize the summer feeling than with a little reggae. The Kaleb Brown Band is a sublime choice. Kaleb’s many original recordings are eloquently written. The band’s warm synth tones and insightful lyrics plunge the listener into an ethereal state. Kaleb’s voice is soothing yet the music still elevates the mood, motivating the audience to keep moving in fluid motion. The Kaleb Brown band plays in a variety of local establishments. A great place to listen is The Reel Inn Dock Bar Sundays & Tuesdays from 5-9pm. You can also catch them at The Ocean Pines Yacht Club this Sunday at 6pm. Both places have incredible views and delicious menus.
A different style but exciting reggae listening opportunity is coming to OC. The Dirty Heads have begun their Cabin by the Sea Tour and will be performing at Seacrets on June 30th. Tickets went on sale 4-20 (imagine that). “The Dirty Heads combine an intriguing mxix of underground hip-hop, post-modern reggae and riff-driven rock to form their own mesh of rhythm and vibes.” They are also featuring The Expendables and Big B. The Dirty Heads have been named “one of the year’s best new bands by Rolling Stone Magazine. The band's most recent release, Cabin by the Sea, features guests Del the Funky Homosapien, KyMani Marley and Matisyahu, and debuted on Billboard's Top 20. The band is teaming up with Ernie Ball to give away a custom guitar belonging to the band. Ernie Ball created Slinkys®, “the iconic light gauge electric guitar strings widely revered by hundreds of guitar greats including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, The Edge and John Mayer.” For more information on the Dirty Heads Tour, Ernie Ball, to purchase concert tickets or enter contest to win guitar, visit dirtyheads.com.
