Sonic Notes

By: Cathy Germann via Coconut Times
This article starts with a dedication to the most talented, handsome, famous man alive. The man who is the reason for my love of music, life & just about everything that exists for me… my biggest hero… my biggest fan… my Dad.
Many people follow in the footsteps of their fathers, and musicians are no strangers to this concept. Some that we know best are Enrique & Julio Iglesias, Billy Ray & Miley Cyrus, Frank & Nancy Sinatra, Bob & Jakob Dylan, John & Julian Lennon, Nat "King” & Natalie Cole, Bob, Stephen, Ziggy, and Damian Marley and 3 generations of Hank Williams’. We have quite a few locally as well. Last week I stopped into Johnny’s Pizza to hear a band by the name of Eddie. I learned that the guitar player, Eddie Saah has a son, Joey Saah that perpetuated his father’s gift of music. The other band members include Terry Wilson on bass, Phil Portier on guitar & vocals & Curtis Krams on drums. They play a full array of the old & the new rock with a strong sound, rhythm & groove. Phil’s vocals are particularly good with Curtis and Terry providing excellent harmonies. You may be familiar with their sound as both Eddie & Terry played locally in Lime Green Band. While performing in Lime Green, Eddie played bass & Terry played guitar. I asked Eddie why they switched and he said “because we felt like it”. They also recorded an original CD as Lime Green. These talented musicians are definitely a good choice for a night of great music.
Normally, I talk about a musician after I have heard them. However, I would like to mention one that I am looking forward to going to hear at The Galaxy on June 21 & throughout the summer. He is performing as a solo artist & his name is Jordan White. You may have seen him perform previously while in Fuzzy Bunny Slippers, the acoustic trio, Foreplay, or KineticBlu. During season 5, Jordan advanced through the early rounds of American Idol. He has also toured with national acts such as Third Eye Blind and more. Recently, he performed a month-long residency at Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia. With these credentials along with a list of music awards, I decided to listen to White’s release titled “Four Songs” at jordanwhitemusic.com. It is a very interesting assemblage of songs with thoughtfully crafted lyrics. Other than his very refined, dynamic vocals, each song is undoubtedly unique. I’m not sure I could label Jordan with just one style. He is absolutely worth checking out and The Galaxy/Skye Bar is a perfect venue.
My quote this week goes… “No music is so pleasant to my ears as that word―father.” (Lydia Maria Child, Philothea: A Romance)  I would also like to add a few verses from an old song sung by Lulu…”How do you thank someone, who has taken you from crayons to perfume? It isn't easy, but I'll try…  A friend who taught me right from wrong, and weak from strong, that's a lot to learn, what can I give you in return?” Happy Father’s Day Dad…I love you!! And Happy Father’s Day to All the Dads!
