Thank you to all the supporters who attended the Rods & Rockers fall event at the Steer Inn Tavern last weekend. With your help, the Pink Ribbon Pinups raised nearly $1,000 for the Pink Ribbon Classic—a local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Our next fundraising event is slated for November 4 at Seacrets, where we’ll celebrate Jammin Out Cancer. This event will feature “jamming through the decades,” which includes a performance by Coconut Times Entertainers of the Year 2011—The Chest Pains. This local band will take the stage at 5:00 to pay tribute to the 1980s. Representing the 1960s will be Oh Boy, a Buddy Holly tribute band, and paying homage to the 1970s will be boogie band Groovement. The Pink Ribbon Pinups are ready to dance the night away, and the event will also present food from many renowned restaurants in Ocean City, plus a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. So, what’s on the calendar this week? Local favorite Kevin Poole kicks off the weekend at 6:00 on Friday at the Ocean Pines Yacht Club’s Java Bay Café. Of course, this musical event is open to the public. Rod Stewart tribute artist, Sir Rod, entertains the crowd at 707 Sports Bar & Grill at 9:00 on Friday, October 14. On Saturday, enjoy a performance by The Chest Pains at 4:00 at M.R. Ducks for its Duck Party. Enjoy it before the venue closes for the season! Macky’s Closing Party is on Sunday, October 16. DJ Darth Fader will host the closing festivities, which always draws a huge crowd. And it’s their 1st Oktoberfest!
October 14 & 15 is also Corvette Weekend at the beach and Oktoberfest in Berlin and Ocean City. At the Convention Ctr., hear German sing-alongs with Bavarian dancers and continuous oom-pah bands. In Berlin, oom-pah band The Wanders will perform in the German-themed beer garden.
Surf’s Up Café is attracting a huge local crowd this season. Darth Fader hosts Ladies Night at SUC on Wednesday nights. The spot is taking over theme parties with a new 1980s theme party each Thursday night. Dubbed Fat Thursday with Bigler, this week’s 1980s theme is leather and lace, and next Thursday will be a toga party.
I’ll definitely be an uptown girl on Thursday, October 20, when two of my favorite acts perform at Fenwick Island establishments. At High Stakes Bar & Grill, the immensely talented Kevin Poole will play for the first time with Joe Mama. And, just around the corner at Matteo’s Salsa Loco, my friends the Phantom Limbs will rock the crowd at 8:00.
Halloween is just around the corner, and I still need to buy a costume. (Note: The Halloween Superstore next to Marshalls in Rehoboth is the best place to shop for your costume.) Where will you celebrate this year? Costume contests abound in Ocean City. Each year, I love checking out the smaller local haunts for unique and outrageous costumes, but I always end up at Seacrets for the biggest party of the year. This year, Seacrets will throw its huge costume party on Saturday, October 29. Look for details in the next issue of Coconut Times.
Fager’s Island has some exciting music on tap for what remains of October. On Saturday, October 22, Bruce in the USA plays the greatest hits of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. On Friday, October 28, get into the Halloween spirit with Rock Bottom—a KISS tribute band that is legendary for its costumes and makeup.
Make sure to pick up next week’s issue of Coconut Times for spooktacular Halloween details. Have a wonderful week, everyone.
