Vanishing Ocean City With Bunk Mann

By: DispatchAdmin via Maryland Coast Dispatch

There have been some unique advertising devices that have called attention to Ocean City’s attractions over the years. Some of today’s most popular include Ripley’s shark in the pier building on Wicomico Street, the big pirate at Jolly Roger Amusement Park and the Batmobile parking beside Ocean Gallery on 2nd Street.

One of the most famous landmarks was the giant bull with sunglasses that stood on 64th Street for over 25 years. Nicknamed “Mr. Ocean City,” the large statue advertised Captain Bob’s Steak and Seafood House and was a favorite place for tourists to pose for pictures in the mid-town area. The bull underwent various disguises and paint schemes and was even featured on postcards in the 1970s and 80s.

Captain Bob’s was torn down in 2004 and the site is now the location of Dead Freddies. Sadly the giant bull no longer watches traffic along Coastal Highway.
