WHAT’S YOUR COLOR?

By: Linda Sears via Coconut Times

My band, Old School OC, was playing at the newly remodeled and happening place Fenwick Oasis last week when my friend Paige and her daughter Ashley came in. Ashley was wearing a beautiful floor-length sun dress in a color that just set her hair and her beautiful tan off perfectly. It was one of the new colors for this summer season, coral or salmon, I called it reggae orange. She looked ravishing in it and obviously it is her color. In speaking with her, she shared with me that she thinks her other color is purple, the color of royalty. This got me thinking and looking around at the colors people were wearing. Color can make or break your look. It can make you shine and enhance your beauty, or wash you out and make you look really bad like yellow does for me. Your color also changes with the seasons.
SUMMER – Bright colors, such as the neon lime, orange or pink, playful and island prints, or just bright white.
FALL – Burnished colors, such as oranges, browns, purples and reds.
WINTER – Warm colors such as rose pink, browns, beige, black and winter whites.
SPRING – Not yet warm and not sure what to wear, slightly warm days and cool nights. Some people say you can’t wear white before Memorial Day (I do). It’s also Easter so that yellows, pinks and greens come out.
In a conversation on the beach last week with my friend Becky Ashcraft, she shared with me that years ago she took a color class. I didn’t even know there was such a thing but it makes sense. When you are a child your mother makes the choices of what you wear. As your personality emerges, you find your own style, and you experiment with colors. I see the tie-dye from the ‘60s and ‘70s is making a comeback right now, and this is a favorite of mine. There are, however, the cutting edge young ladies in town such as my friend CC who, from day one of choosing her own style, was making a statement. She wears every color of the rainbow all at one time and she looks beautiful all the time. She mixes and matches one-of-a-kind pieces and makes it work. She should market and sell her style; she could be a trend setter.
My friend Mary Paula wears colors and styles that set her apart from the rest of the world. She is, in every sense of the word, making a statement. Looks great all the time and has the biggest heart to go with it. She is creating her own jewelry line as we speak.
Ashley, a college student, who should be a model, wears the new more popular colors such as melon and it brings out her inner beauty.
Did you know that white and black are not colors at all? The fashion world and colorists say that white and black are void of color. Learn something new every day, right? I try so hard to include some color in my wardrobe, but if you look in my closet right now, three-quarters of it is black and white. Every year I wonder where some of these designers come up with their so-called styles and now the neon colors. Some hurt your eyes if you look at them too long. I saw a girl wearing one of the new geometric prints and I could have sworn the pattern on the dress was moving. It made my stomach upset. It did slim her down a little, so...
What is your color? Choose wisely. You can make or break your look, and remember, you can mix and match any color with black and white. You can share your great tips by contacting me at lindasears53@aol.com
