We Remember Those We Have Lost

Leonard Benjamin Kelley

OCEAN PINES -- Leonard Benjamin Kelley, age 92, died Sunday January 27, 2013 at the Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury.

Born in Humboldt, Iowa, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Kelley and Ella Bohn Kelley. He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Alvarez Kelley in 2006.

Mr. Kelley was a graduate of the University of Maryland and had been an editor with the Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. He was a WWII Army/Air Force veteran, a member of the VFW in Silver Spring and Takoma Park, Md. He was an avid golfer and a Washington Redskins football and Delmarva Shorebirds baseball fan. “Lenny”, as his friends called him, was a Stephen Decatur High School athletic booster. He enjoyed attending football, basketball games and track meets.

Mr. Kelley is survived by his daughters, Rosemary Kelley and her companion David DeZarn of Ocean Pines and his children Joe, Jaya, and Angela, Suzanne Kelley of Alexandria, Va., Martha L. Kelley and her husband Michael Burke of Washington, D.C., and Anita “Coo” Brady and her husband Mark of Olney, Md. There are four grandchildren, Edward K. Serembus, Jr., Amy Wolf and her husband Captain Tim Wolf, Kelley Brady and Katelynn Brady, and there is one great granddaughter McKenna Wolf.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas, Edward and Donald Kelley and Rosemary Kelley Jarboe.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Feb. 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church in Ocean Pines. Interment will be at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Neumann Church, 11211 Beauchamp Road, Ocean Pines, Md. 21811 or the St. Martin’s Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Baltimore, Md. 21822, www.littlesistersofthepoorBaltimore.org. Arrangements are in the care of the Burbage Funeral home in Berlin.


Bobby Randall Hamlett

BERLIN -- Bobby Randall “Randy” Hamlett, 54, of Berlin died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

He was born in Lebanon, Tenn. and was the son of the late Bobby Kenneth and Kayree Colene (Kirk) Hamlett.  

He had worked as a deliveryman for The Dispatch.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. “Libby” Terrell of Berlin; a daughter, Melanie Lee of Essex, Md.; three brothers, Danny Hamlett of Willards, Bruce Hamlett of Berlin and Todd Hamlett of Towson; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Faith Baptist Church in Berlin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Worcester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 48, Berlin, MD 21811.
