Gary was born on Feb. 18, 1943, in Peoria, Ill. to Russell and Marian Ramey. His father was a window washer in Chicago and Miami and his mother worked for many years in the airline industry. The family moved to Miami, Fla. in 1953.
Gary graduated from North Miami High School in 1961. He attended college in Washington, D.C. at the Benjamin Franklin University (now part of GW University). While attending he met his wife, Millie Nieves from Silver Spring, Md. They were introduced by their mutual friends, the Melsons, and were married in 1966. Gary, an only child, suddenly became part of a much larger family as Millie had three brothers, two sisters and a large extended family. After graduation, they decided to settle down and start a family in Laurel, Md. where they had three sons. In 1977, they moved the family to Burke, Va. where they have lived ever since.
He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed going to the beach, playing golf, bowling, boating, fishing, and working on various family construction projects. He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, son, son-in law, and friend. He was a devoted caregiver to both his own parents and Millie’s parents.
